1003901 [Adolf Hitler] Wedding Edition Presentation Copy of Mein Kampf Scroll down to see images of the item below the description
This is a very fine presentation copy of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf. This special Hochzeitsausgabe, or Wedding Edition, was published in Munich in 1937. After Hitler came to power, cities often presented copies of Mein Kampf to their newlywed couples. Included in this copy is a typical dedication "to the newly married couple . . . with the best wishes for a happy and blessed marriage presented by the city administration of Oberhausen-Rhineland on October 14, 1937." It is signed by the Oberbürgermeister, or mayor. Oberhausen is a city near the industrial cities of Dortmund and Essen in the northwest German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Mein Kampf, or “My Struggle,” is Hitler's autobiography and political manifesto in two books, which he began dictating while imprisoned in Landsburg am Lech, in Bavaria, following the failed Nazi coup d'etat known as the Beer Hall Putsch in November 1923. Book 1, ”A Reckoning,” was published in 1925, and Book 2, ”The National Socialist Movement,” in 1926. Both books are contained within this volume. Inside this book, opposite the title page and separated from it by an onionskin sheet, is a lithograph portrait of Hitler with his facsimile signature printed beneath it. This copy comes with the original cardboard slipcase. It is bound in speckled tan paper-covered boards with a black leather spine. The cover has the city arms embossed in gilt. The spine is printed with gilt decorative lettering, featuring four raised bands and a stamped emblem of an oak leaf and two acorns. The top page edge is also gilt, which is still bright, and the gray ribbon is intact and bound inside. The spine shows only slight wear in a couple of spots. The pages are clean, bright, and unmarked, and the binding is tight. The slipcase is split one the back and one side at the top and has a partial split along one edge on the bottom. This is an excellent copy of this book and a fine piece of memorabilia from Germany's darkest years.
