Neil Armstrong

Armstrong signs in person for a fellow golfer

Neil Alden Armstrong, 1930-2012.  American astronaut; first man on the moon.  Bold in-person signature, Neil Armstrong, on a golf tournament program.  With signed statement of provenance.

This piece has never been on the market before.  Armstrong, who as the commander of Apollo XI became the first astronaut to walk on the moon, played in the 1983 Findlay Country Club Member-Guest golf tournament in Findlay, Ohio, which is some 50 miles from Armstrong's home town of Wapakoneta, Ohio.  He signed this tournament program in person for one of the other players.  The names of both Armstrong and that player appear in the printed portion of the program.  The piece comes with a signed statement of provenance from the player who obtained the signature.

This is as nice a signature of Armstrong as one can find.  He has signed the program in bold, blue ballpoint on the blank last page inside the cover.  There is evidence of faded or erased circles around the names of Armstrong and player who obtained the signature in the tournament pairing listings inside the program.  The program is slightly soiled in a few places.  Printing also shows through, although not obtrusively, from the back side of the page that Armstrong has signed.  Overall the piece is in fine condition.

This piece would be perfect for framing and comes with an unsigned NASA color photograph of Armstrong in his Apollo XI spacesuit standing before an image of the moon.

Unframed.
