“Friends like you make it all worthwhile."

Ronald Wilson Reagan, 1911–2004.  40th President of the United States.  Autograph Note Signed, Ron & Nancy, one page, 5" x 7", on plain notepad stationery, no place [California], no date [circa 1979–1980].

Reagan drafts a note for printing inside his holiday greeting card to supporters.  In full:  "Let us wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Holiday Season and a joyous New Year.  /  Youʼll always have our deepest appreciation for your friendship and generous support.  Friends like you make it all worthwhile.  /  Ron & Nancy"

This note is one of apparently two that Reagan wrote to express these sentiments in a card that bore this preprinted greeting.  A copy of the printed card, which is illustrated in the scans below, accompanies this piece.  For whatever reason—perhaps because Reagan wrote this one in pencil, which could have made reproduction difficult, or perhaps because his signature line on this one runs downhill—a slightly different handwritten note from Reagan with identical content was reproduced in the card.  The printed card bears a photograph of Ronald and Nancy Reagan before the American flag and behind a podium with a sign reading "reagan for president in 1980."

This is a nice example of Reaganʼs holograph that would be beautiful in a framed display.  Were it not for staple holes at the very top edge, we would grade it extra fine.  As it is, strictly speaking it is in fine condition.  Reagan has boldly written it in pencil.
