Beautiful signed portrait of the conservative Canadian Prime Minister

Martin Brian Mulroney, QPC, CC, GOQ, 1939–2004.  Prime Minister of Canada, 1984–1993.  8” x 10” formal black-and-white portrait photograph inscribed and signed, Randy / with best wishes / Brian Mulroney.

This is a beautiful photograph.  Mulroney has inscribed and signed in black felt-tip pen.

Mulroney replaced Joe Clark as the Progressive Conservative Party leader in 1983.  In September 1984, the Tories won in a landslide, taking 211 seats to the Liberal Party’s 40 seats, at once the largest winning majority and the worst defeat for the federal governing party in Canadian history.  Mulroney became Canada’s 18th Prime Minister on September 17, 1984.  He led the first Conservative majority government in 26 years and just the second in 54 years.

As Prime Minister, Mulroney had a close relationship with American President Ronald Reagan.  The United States and Canada entered into a landmark treaty on acid rain and a free-trade treaty under which all tariffs between the two countries would be removed by 1998.

This photo is in very fine condition.  Only a small spot on the back where a sticker has been removed, which has left a small impression in the upper left margin that is visible only when the photo is turned just right in the light, keeps it from being extra fine.  There is a bit of brushing to a couple of letters in Mulroney’s last name, but it is not obtrusive.

Unframed.
