Cacheted first day of issue cover for the 15¢ Black Heritage USA stamp honoring Dr. King

[Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., 1929–1968.]  Cacheted first day of issue cover honoring Dr. King.

This is a beautiful first day of issue cover for the 15¢ Black Heritage USA stamp honoring Dr. King.  It has a first day of issue postmark at Atlanta, Georgia, January 13, 1979.

The cover, issued by Artcraft, has an engraved vignette containing a bust portrait of Dr. King superimposed on a view of the Washington, D.C., mall from behind King as he delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963.  It notes that King, a “distinguished Civil Rights leader,” received the Nobel Prize for Peace.

This piece is very nice.  It is addressed in typewriting beneath the cancellation stamp.  There is a tiny bit of soiling on the left edge, and there is a small bend to the top right corner.  Overall, the piece is clean and attractive.  It is an excellent commemorative of Dr. King.

Unframed.
