Franklin D. Roosevelt

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 1882-1945.  32nd President of the United States, 1933-1945.  Uninscribed formal portrait photograph signed Franklin D. Roosevelt. 

Roosevelt has signed this photograph in brown ink in the margin below his image.  The photograph is in fine condition, and the signature is extremely fine.  There is a small tear in the bottom margin, well away from the signature, but it does not substantially detract from the overall quality of the photograph.

The photo has been custom framed with the mailing label from the fragmented original envelope that accompanied this photograph.  The label shows that the photograph was mailed from the “Executive Chamber / Albany, N.Y.,” so it is clear that Roosevelt signed this portrait when he was Governor of New York.  It thus dates from the period 1929-1933.

The photo is richly double matted in dark brown suede with an inlaid beaded gold fillet and an engraved brass identification plate, and it is framed in a beaded gilt wooden frame.
