William McKinley

William McKinley, 1843-1901.  25th President of the United States, 1897-1901.  Very fine 14" x 17" Document Signed, W McKinley, as Governor of Ohio, April 6, 1895.

This is a beautiful appointment document in which McKinley appoints a justice of the peace for Windsor Township in Ashtabula County, Ohio, "authorizing and empowering him to execute and discharge, all and singular, the duties appertaining to said office; and to enjoy all the privileges and immunities thereof."

This document is one of the best of its type that we have seen in a long time.  It is considerably whiter than the photograph of the entire document below shows.  The other image, a digital scan of McKinley's signature, more closely shows the nice color of the piece. The seal is intact, and the document has a beautiful engraving at the top.  McKinley has signed with a huge 4" signature.

There are one horizontal and three vertical folds, a couple of small holes in the fold in the top blank margin, which could be matted out if the piece were framed, and a couple of pinholes by the tail of, but not touching, McKinley's signature.  Overall the document is in very fine condition.

Unframed.
