Harry S. Truman, 1884-1972.  33rd President of the United States, 1945-1953.  Typed Letter Signed, Harry S. Truman, one page, quarto, on personal stationery, Independence, Missouri, May 13, 1958.  With original envelope.

Former President Truman offers to sign a copy of his memoirs for a book company representative.  He says that he "more than appreciated" the man's letter and writes that if he "cared to bring your set of the Memoirs to the Carlyle Hotel . . . I would be very happy to inscribe them for you."

As this letter shows, Truman cordially signed autographs.  He had a habit, although he did not universally follow it, of signing only the first of the two volumes of his memoirs.

This letter has a beautiful black fountain pen signature.  The letter is in fine to very fine condition, with a small stain at the lower right and a pencil notation in the upper right corner.  The accompanying envelope is soiled but overall is in fine condition.

Unframed.
