Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 1882-1945.  32nd President of the United States, 1933-1945.  Typed Letter Signed, Franklin D. Roosevelt, one page, 7" x 9", with integral leaf attached, on embossed, engraved stationery of The Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Washington, April 1, 1914.  With original envelope.

In this cordial, seemingly urgent letter, the 32-year-old Roosevelt encourages a young man who seeks to sell newspapers to sailors in order to raise money for his education.  He writes, in full:  "I have just received your letter of March 30th and am writing at once to let you know that the U.S.S. VIRGINIA is expected to arrive at the Boston Navy Yard on Thursday, April 2nd.  /  I hope you will have good luck in selling many papers and that you will be successful in your efforts to secure an education."

This letter bears a beautiful, bold 3¾" full signature by Roosevelt in blue fountain pen.  The letter has three mailing folds and shows a bit of handling, but it is in fine condition overall.  The envelope is quite soiled and is open at the top and one end.  It is in fair to good condition.

Unframed.
