Alexander Meigs Haig, Jr., 1924-2010.  American Army General; Supreme Allied Commander Europe, 1974-1979; United States Secretary of State, 1981-1982.  Cacheted United Nations first day cover, boldly signed Alexander Haig.

This piece commemorates the first day of issue of two United Nations “Environment" stamps and is postmarked in Geneva, Switzerland, June 5, 1972.  The words first day of issue and official cachet / united nations headquarters and the UN logo are printed in blue on a gold and silver background around an image of the UN headquarters building.

A note on the back of the envelope in another hand reads “Alexander Haig / Sec. of / State,” so Haig likely signed it when he was President Ronald Reagan's Secretary of State, January 1981-July 1982.

Apart from the note on the back, the piece is pristine.  Overall it is in fine to very fine condition. Unframed.
