John F. Kennedy

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 1917-1963.  35th President of the United States, 1961-1963.  Red, white, and blue Kennedy For President paper campaign shield, signed John Kennedy, from the 1960 presidential campaign.

This autograph is from the 1960 Wisconsin primary.  Provenance suggests that Kennedy signed it when he was campaigning in Milwaukee.  Kennedy has signed next to his photograph on the shield.

Both the shield and the autograph are in fine condition.  There is a light fingerprint on the blue section of the shield—perhaps even JFK's—but it is not obtrusive, and indeed it does not show in the close-up scan at left.

In 1960, at age 43, Kennedy became the youngest person ever elected president.  The “torch,” he said in his eloquent inaugural address, had been “passed to a new generation of Americans."  He and his beautiful young wife, Jacqueline, brought a new era of style and grace to the White House.  His assassination in 1963 shocked not only the nation, but the world.

This piece is beautifully matted in blue suede and red.  It is framed in black with an engraved silver plate and a patriotic photograph showing Kennedy speaking with American flags behind him.  The photograph is recessed from the top mat, and both the autograph and the plate are floated above the background, giving the piece a stunning three-dimensional effect.

A History In Ink framed original.
