910307 Adolf Hitler Click on images for larger size
Adolf Hitler, 1889-1945. Führer and Reich Chancellor of Nazi Germany, 1933-1945. Superb 9¼" x 11¾" formal portrait photograph inscribed and signed as Chancellor, R. H. Count Eric von Rosen, with friendly remembrance from Adolf Hitler, and dated by Hitler Berlin October 11, 1935. This is one of the finest Hitler signed photographs that we have ever seen, both for its quality and for its association. Eric von Rosen (1879-1948), to whom Hitler gave this photograph, was the former brother-in-law of Nazi Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring. Hitler inscribed and signed this stunning photograph to von Rosen in October 1935, nearly three years after he became the German Führer and Reich Chancellor. The portrait is by Heinrich Hoffman, the Munich photographer whom Hitler favored and who consequently was the official photographer of the Nazi party. Although he made exceptions, by this time Hitler typically signed only Hoffman photographs. One cannot ask for a better photograph of Hitler. This one is in virtually mint condition. It has two unobtrusive edge crimps, one at the left and one at the lower right, which we mention for the sake of accuracy. There is none of the silvering that is typical in old photographs. Hitler has boldly inscribed and signed in black fountain pen. We reject Nazism and all that it represented. We nevertheless offer this photograph because of its rarity and historical significance and because Nazism, although despised, played a large role in the history of the 20th Century. This piece belongs in any fine German or World War II collection. Unframed. _____________
