Menachem Begin, 1913-1992.  Sixth Prime Minister of Israel, 1977-1983.  Printed dinner invitation inscribed and signed M. Begin.

This is an invitation to a testimonial dinner in Flushing, New York, on March 14, 1976, at which Begin was the featured speaker.  He has boldly inscribed and signed next to his photograph.

Some 14 months after Begin signed this program, his Likud party won the Knesset elections by a landslide, ending the liberals' domination of Israeli politics.  The victory signified a fundamental restructuring of Israeli society, with a coalition of marginalized Mizrahi and Jewish-religious communities replacing the founding socialist Ashkenazi elite, promoting a socially conservative but economically liberal agenda.

Begin is perhaps best remembered for his role in the 1978 Camp David Accords, which brought Israel peace with Egypt.  For his role, he shared the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize with Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.

This piece has a horizontal fold and is toned at the upper right, both well away from the inscription and signature.  The piece is in fine condition overall.

Unframed.
